Tell us about your company:

“We Rock The Spectrum Redondo Beach is so excited to be in the community providing a necessary safe, fun, magical place for children and adults of all abilities, typical and special needs to play, to grow, educate, and celebrate together. Our all-inclusive facility is a place where all children can have fun while benefiting from an active environment, helping children in the areas of strength, movement, sensory processing, positive behavior modification, social interactions, music therapy and drum fun, arts & crafts and self-care skills.

We also have the well-known in the beach cities and beyond Sabina Sandoval founder of Free to Be Me Drumming Events which provides rhythmic drum fun that can be tailored to your specific occasion such as a field trip, birthday party, graduation, team building event, therapy and much more.

We believe our facility to be a place of social no competition interaction rhythmically, artistically, and physically as well as freedom of self-expression while interacting with others. Creating freedom without being self-conscious of others judging you. We Rock The Spectrum Redondo Beach with Free To Be Me Drumming Events creates a safe magical space for all. One of our slogans is to Fly like Peter Pan. Paint like Picasso, Drum like Ringo Star and More.”

What inspired you to launch this business:

“I fell in love with We Rock The Spectrum Kids Gym when hired for a professional Free To Be Me Drumming Event with participants that all had  special needs. I looked around the room and it was magical. I was inspired and thought someone should open one in the SB never thinking it would be me. This beautiful gym holds a special connection in my heart due to participating with special needs for last 18 years with Free To Be Me Drumming Events and having special needs in my family. Ultimately I was inspired as well in bridging special needs and typical together.”

What is one of your proudest moments:

“One of my proudest moments was when a father didn’t realize we were bridging special needs and typical together and he had already previously attended with his on who’s on the spectrum 10 times before and realized this was an all-inclusive gym. No judgement or segregation doing our job/magic it made me feel very proud.”

What can one expect when working visiting your location:

“Fun, Magic, Music, Free To Be Me Drum Circle, Laughter, Arts & Crafts Open Play, Indoor Playground, Loving Crew, Sensory Fun, Volunteers, Interns.”

Tell us a little about you:

“I’m the founder and creator of Free To Be Me Drumming Events a well-established non-profit organization in the South Bay Beach Cities and beyond for the past 14 years has become an icon in the community. I’m a natural musician with over 14 years of experience as a director, teacher, facilitator, and speaker who shared a message on TEDx talks Redondo Beach. I’ve recorded albums and played with some of the best in the business; from drumming with local all-female bands in Hermosa, to opening for such greats as Pat Benatar, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, and more. But after 35 years of drumming, I was re-invented as a drummer, turned to a hand drum, the djembe. Sabina eventually created an academic/after school enrichment program, “Free To Be Me Kool Kid Drummers”, taught at LAUSD, Redondo Beach, and Manhattan Beach schools. Free to be Me Drumming Events is a non-profit, all volunteer organization; “Free To Be Me Drum Circle” goes into prisons, convalescent homes, schools and Hermosa Beach every third Sunday of the month, for the past 13 years. She helps teach individuals about their natural innate rhythm, and how to tap into it, celebrate their lives, be free and help each other one through one of the most powerful instruments in the world, the DRUM.

What do you enjoy doing in the South Bay when you are not working:

“I enjoy going to Hermosa Beach Pier where I have been going since I was 16 years young. It’s one of my favorite places to go because of the spirit of the community.”

How do you give back to the community:

“Of course, it’s a-part of my life to give back. One major way I have been giving back is through my non-profit organization Free To Be Me Drum Circle that helps kids at risk, kids k-12, elders, prison inmates and people with mental and physical disabilities by providing loving, educational, drumming events.
