Summer of 2020 is right around the corner and we’ve updated our South Bay Summer Camp list!  Do you know what your kids will be doing?  Keeping kids busy during the summer can be a challenge, so we’ve put together this list of every summer camp we could find in the South Bay!  Have any favorites? General Camps in the South Bay 

Torrance YMCA – Ages K-9
YMCA Summer Day Camps provide a safe and enriching environment for campers to participate in healthy, developmentally-appropriate activities and learning experiences. Our camps focus on having fun while learning, building self-esteem and social skills through new activities. Weekly themes keep campers engaged and provide a basis for kids to learn about themselves and the world around them. We have many options for your child to have the best summer ever!

Valley Park Day Camp – Ages 6 to 13
Valley Park Day Camp is an all day, week long program for children ages 6 to 13 between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm at Hermosa Beach’s Valley Park, 2515 Valley Drive. Day campers participate in a variety of activities such as sports, drama, cooperative games, crafts, beach activities and off-site excursions to encourage social, physical and creative development. An enthusiastic leadership staff of experienced camp counselors supervises all activities. Counselor to camper ratio is 1:10.

Adventure Camp at AdventurePlex – Ages 4-12
You want the best for your kids, so give it to them with every school break! Adventure Camp has been repeatedly voted “Best Camp” in the Easy Reader’s “Best of the Beach” awards for helping kids do what they love—have fun! What they don’t realize is that the rock climbing, arts and crafts, play structure fun and Sports Court games are developing healthy habits, building self-esteem and teaching social skills—that’s the AdventurePlex way!

Camp Awesome –  Ages 4-13
Is a drop off only beach summer program. Camp curriculum consists of play, leisure, sports, arts and crafts, water activities, exercise, and positive reinforcement. Camp will also consist of beach parties, field trips, and making short films and music videos. Parents will be able to follow their children at any time online through our social media.

Peninsula Day Camp & Swim School – Ages 4-12
Day Camp is about the experience. It’s about building better people, making new friends and creating better tomorrows. The activities are simply the tools by which campers gain self-esteem, confidence, personal growth and respect for others. Amid the fun and excitement, children learn fundamentals in a variety of activities, good sportsmanship, and the thrill of accomplishment.

Freedom Surf Camp
Freedom Surf Camps are all about introducing your kid/s to the truly amazing feeling of surfing, developing a healthy life style, and becoming primed on ocean safety. We have a variety of options and locations around Los Angeles, teaching on famous beaches, like Venice/Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, and Malibu.

Zooga Yoga South Bay – Ages 3-10
Join our unique Zooga Camps, where your child will travel with us on a themed-YOGAPLAY® adventure each day, exploring basic yoga poses through imagination, mindfulness, breathing, socialization with other children, arts-n-crafts, games and more! We have the best camp teachers and yoga teachers in town. Your child will leave each day with a new self-awareness and new friends. *must be potty trained

Champ camp – Ages 4-12
Established in 2012, champ camp is a play-based kids beach camp where campers live the #champlife through their participation in a whole lotta engaging games and activities! At Champ Camp, our kiddos are empowered with the ability to pick their play throughout the day!

Fly Studios – Ages 5- adult
Beginners and experienced aerialists welcome! Each summer our Fly camps becomes a ‘traveling aerial circus!’ Each session will imaginary travel to a chosen country where it’s music and culture will inspire our performance exploration!

The Lakes at El Segundo Golf Camp –  Ages 5-14
Our Junior Golf Summer Program is one of the top choices amongst many Summer camp options. Each Summer over 300 juniors participate in our 5 Day Camps. Juniors are exposed to the golf course each day of the week.

Peter Weber Equestrian Center – Ages 3-12
Learn the basics of horsemanship and learn about other ranch animals and their care: bunnies, goats, chickens, pig, mini burro, mini horse, and alpacas.

Perfect Day Surf Camp –  Ages 4- 15
These campers want to improve on their skills of surfing whether it be the beginner catching and riding waves to an intermediate wanting to learn to turn, cutback, tricks and more.

Aqua Surf Camp – Ages 5-17
Builds fun, safe and educational surfing programs for children and teens ages 5-17, that result in the development of lifelong skills, lasting memories and treasured friendships.

Jack Kramer Club –  Ages 4-12
Camp Activities include: tennis, pool games (SCAT Campers), group games, fitness training, arts & crafts, futsol, basketball, ping pong, sand playground and swings, air hockey, foosball and pool golf.

Beach Sports – Ages 4-15
BeachSports offers educational Beach Camps & Skateboard programs designed for ages 4-15. Our program structure was designed by Los Angeles County Lifeguards and local elementary and middle school teachers to be inclusive, fun, educational and, most importantly, safe for all of our campers. Our camps are offered in Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach and each location offers a variety of different program options to choose from, which we call “Camps”. These Camps are Beach Camp, Surf Camp, Volleyball Camp, Jr. Lifeguard Program and Skateboard Camp. The curriculum for each program has been thoughtfully and strategically designed to accommodate campers of different ages, abilities and comfort levels and is implemented by CPR & First-Aid certified coaches.

Soccer for Tots Camp – Ages 3-7
Classes are formatted to allow each child the opportunity to develop their soccer skills at his or her own pace without the pressure of competition. Their primary goal is to give kids the best possible introduction to the sport, allowing them to develop a true love of the game and, in turn, create a desire to practice, improve and succeed.

Redondo Beach Youth Foundation Sailing Camp – Ages 8-18
King Harbor Youth Foundation, a non-profit corporation created to promote youth sailing in Southern California. Founded in 1982 by King Harbor Yacht Club members, who foresaw the Club’s future in the development of young sailing enthusiasts. Not only has that vision been realized, but the program has grown in size and scope, offering opportunities for all youth in the community to participate and experience the thrill of sailing and develop skills and confidence that come with good seamanship and the Corinthian yachting tradition.

Peninsula Sports Camps
The Peninsula Sports Camps, founded in 1972, has conducted basketball, soccer and baseball camps for over 70,000 youngsters. Tom Maier, the camp director is one of the South Bay’s most prominent basketball coaches with over 700 wins and 4 CIF titles. He is a certified teacher who holds a master’s degree from USC in physical education with a specialty in sports administration. He has been running sports camps throughout Southern California for over 45 years and his number one goal is self-improvement for every camper. Coach Maier is also the former highly successful Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Redondo Union High School and currently the Girls Varsity Basketball Coach at Palos Verdes High School in Palos Verdes.

PCH Skate Camp – Ages 5 to 16
Learn to skateboard or take your skating to the next level at our Skate Camp in Manhattan Beach & Redondo Beach!  We provide beginner and intermediate level instruction starting from the very basic, getting from A to B, to intermediate tricks including ollies, flip tricks, grinds, ramp skating and much more!

The Little Gym – Ages 3-12
Combining physical activity, gymnastics, games, and arts & crafts, we’ll help your child beat the heat of summer by staying cool at The Little Gym. Our fantastic camps are also available during some other school breaks!

Tempest Freerunning Academy – Ages 8-16
If bouncing around a real life Super Mario world wasn’t enough, our facilities were designed and created not only by Team Tempest, but also the great Nate Wessel (Chief X-Games course designer/builder) to provide over 7,000 sq feet of indoor fun. Obstacles in our gyms are inspired by our favorite hot spots from around the world.

South Bay Sailing – Ages 7 to 17
A full service ASA accredited sailing school and charter company.

Hermosa Surf Camp – Ages 7-17
The instructor will be in the water with you helping you catch waves. Practice paddling out and popping up. Have fun switching foot and grabbing the rail! Learn ocean safety and about the beach environment.

PV Surf Camp
P.V. Surf offers various programs depending on age and skill level. The range of programs begins with the participant who is not quite ready to start surfing (these participants will receive one-on-one support in the water at all times), up to the intermediate surfer who wants to improve on his/her skills.

Kids Surf Camps & Youth Programs – ages 5 to 17 years old
Got a Little Mermaid who’s looking for some after-school adventure, or maybe an aspiring pirate who’s a little low on vitamin Sea? Wavehuggers is excited to offer young ocean lovers (ages 5 to 17 years old) with the opportunity to learn the basics of surfing over Spring break and after school in a fun and safe environment at the Hermosa Beach Pier!

Cooking Camps in the South Bay 

Raddish Kids – Grades 3-12
Our Los Angeles area summer camps might be the most tangible expression of our newly refined mission at Raddish – to deliver culinary experiences that nurture kids’ confidence in the kitchen and beyond.

South Bay School of Cooking – Ages 8-13
South Bay School of Cooking offers a wonderful alternative for summer camp. Kids will have fun learning new skills, trying new foods, team building, and sharing mealtimes with others. If your kids like watching the Food Network, have an interest in food preparation, or occasionally utter, “Mom, I want to be a chef!” –this hands-on kids cooking camp is an inspiring option. Our communal cooking style promote complete interaction with the instructor and all of the other campers.


From Scratch Bakers Ages 6+
Chef Arm’s From Scratch Bake Sessions promote baking techniques from basic to advanced. In addition to reviewing the basic history and science of baking, kids will practice proper kitchen safety included knife skills, preparation, and professional kitchen etiquette–all while having a blast whipping up delicious desserts.

Art Camps in the South Bay 

SBAC Youth Program Summer Camp – Ages 7-17

We have a spacious art studio filled with experienced young artists who guide students through a range of mediums by individualized instruction, and emphasizing students’ vision through Instinct, Illumination, Intention, Inspiration, Intellect, Imagination, and Intuition.

Our mediums include Photography, Painting, Watercolor Gel, Wax, Resin, Charcoal, Spray Paint, Photoshop, Product Development, and more… Each student has the space to work on their own individual project each session.

Flower Duet’s Living Art Camp – Ages 7 & up
They supply the projects, the educational background, and S.T.E.A.M. curriculum that anyone can understand.

Every Living Art Camp is made up of:

  • 5 S.T.E.A.M. lessons with stem-by-stem video instructions & supplies*
  • A Zoom conference call with the camp guides to check in on progress of all camp projects each week
  • “Living Art Camp in a Box” mailed to you
  • Resources on how to source flowers locally near you from local flower farmers.
  • *Each box does not include fresh flowers. Optional “Pick Me Up Buckets of Flowers & Greenery” at our studio in Torrance will be available the first day of each camp week throughout the summer and fall

Art Zone
Art Zone 4 hour half day camps are fun and exciting with new ideas and creative experimentation happening every day. Each day, our dynamic instructors guide children step by step through the process of creating a wonderful art project, paying close attention to individual interests and abilities. In addition to our guided projects, your child will enjoy so many other open ended rich play activities including: Clay Table, Finger Painting, Spray Bottle Painting, Goop Table, Dress Up, Sand and Water-room Kitchen. Throughout the year we offer our favorite projects such as Magic Finger-painting, Rainbow Stencils, Wood Collage, Heart Collages, Beading, Shrinky Dinks, Face painting, clay boxes and coil pots, etc. Most importantly, we are looking forward to watching the kids invent their own favorite projects.

South Bay Art Department – Ages 5 & Up
We’ll draw. We’ll paint. We’ll have snacks. And most importantly, we’ll have fun being creative! Camp lessons change daily. New lessons will be introduced throughout Drawing and Painting lessons will cover a variety of topics and mediums such as landscape, sketching, cartooning, design and crafts Mediums covered will include oil and soft pastels, colored pencils, painting and markers

AR Workshop Torrance – Ages 7-14
Our 4-day Youth Camps engage the young mind with creativity while learning practical and functional skills in construction and assembly!  Our campers will learn how to create various wood or canvas projects with the help of our talented assistants, such as wood plank signs, canvas tote bags, macrame wall hangings and more.  Kids will enjoy their time with us as they sand, stain, paint, hammer and drill (under supervision).  Friday Add-On sessions are also available.  Campers will go home with their finished project each day!

PlanetBravo – Grades 2-9
From the beginning, PlanetBravo’s award-winning summer camp has always been about giving kids a fun, confidence-boosting experience where they can explore and develop new multimedia skills with their friends. Whether it’s learning to code, making movies, modding Minecraft, or building robots, our kids are using their summers to do incredible things with technology here at camp.

GIGIL PLAY – TK – 8th grade
GIGIL’s STEM Camp lends a safe environment to let children tap into their exploration instincts and learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We will focus the children’s natural curiosities and encourage creativity and motivation through the learning process! With three hours of activities, your kiddos will keep their minds learning this summer break, in a fun and inquisitive way!

Aquarium of the Pacific – Ages 3-15
Dive into fun this summer! Whether your child is three years old or entering high school, we have a camp experience perfect for him or her! Our camps feature exciting animal interactions, tours, crafts, games, and experiments.

California Science Center – 1st- 8th grade
Hands-On Science Camp, making possible life-enhancing experiences for children.

Destination Science – Ages 5- 11
Destination Science is a warm, wonderful environment where kids feel comfortable making connections with others!

USS Iowa – Camp Battleship
Our overnight program allows youth groups the opportunity to spend an evening on board a vintage WWII battleship and experience life as a sailor. The program includes a tour introduction to STEM learning, chow on the mess decks, entertainment, and much more.

South Bay Eco Kids – Ages 6 – 8
South Bay Eco Kids is a program of TeachingGreen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people love and protect our natural world. At Eco Kids Camp, we get children back into nature where they can thrive. No computers, no smart phones, no man-made playground equipment. Just trees and ponds, insects and wildlife, waiting to be discovered and explored.

Engineering For Kids   
At Engineering For Kids, our camps are carefully structured to provide your child with the enrichment he or she needs to grow and thrive. Our camps run in the spring, winter, and summer for your convenience. Our programs come in many varieties to accommodate your schedule, such as half-day camps, full-day camps, and holiday break camps. We also host camps on scheduled days off for reasons such as professional work days, teacher conference days, etc.

Adventures in Nature Day Camp – Grades K-8
Adventures in Nature is a day camp offered every summer and seasonally throughout the school year. Children have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of Museum topics — Earth’s features, creatures, and cultures from around the globe. Enroll your children in our hands-on, interactive classes and they will learn about fascinating topics through active encounters that spark children’s natural curiosity and creativity.

Sea Lab Summer Camp – Ages 4-11
Crafts, games and hands-on activities will guide our learning. We will study marine animals and their fascinating features.

Planet Bravo  – Grades 2-9
PlanetBravo’s award-winning summer camp has always been about giving kids a fun, confidence-boosting experience where they can explore and develop new multimedia skills with their friends. Steve & Kates Camp
Studios represent the deepest, most advanced creative opportunities at Steve & Kate’s. Designed by learning scientists and tested by kids, studios offer a range of meaningful activities and cutting-edge technologies where campers can dig deep into their passions. Film, Bread-making, Coding, Fashion, & Music.

Rolling Robots – Ages 5-14
Rolling Robots prides itself in teaching children of all learning backgrounds the core concepts of STEM, robotics, and computer programming / coding. No prior experience is required except a few advanced camps for which we have listed recommended prerequisites. Check the specific camp’s product page for details. In addition, please use the age guidelines listed when enrolling your child so that he/she will have the best experience possible.

ReDiscover Center – Ages 7-12 and Counselor in Training program for ages 13-18
If you’re looking for a hands-on, creative, and super fun summer camp for your kids, ReDiscover Center has you covered! Tinkering School LA teaches children the skills they need to work confidently in wood, plastic, and metal to build robust structures as wild as their imaginations. With a 4:1 camper to facilitator ratio, our fully stocked workshop provides a safe and supportive environment for personal growth through skills development and creative construction.

Music Rhapsody Camp – Grades K-8
This Summer Music Camp is offered to grades Kinder in Fall through eight, camp classes include ORFF (marimbas, metallophones, glockenspiels and other exciting percussion instruments!), instrumental lessons (recorder, piano, guitar, ukulele and many more!) dance and movement, singing, musical theater, and even the dulcimer. Students even present their own concert at the end of camp. Come find out why students return year after year to music camp! Students will enjoy learning all about the stage. From performing skills to costume design; we sing, dance, act, craft, and more. There is a mini-musical performance at the end of each camp week for family and friends. The Little Mermaid- July 22nd-26th 8:30am-12:30pm  and The Lion King-August 12th-16th 8:30am-12:30pm   *May participate in one or both camps

Camp Gan Izzy
Camp Gan Israel, under the auspices of the Jewish Community Center – Chabad – is part of the largest and fastest growing network of Jewish day camps in the world. Gan Israel enjoys a well-earned reputation as a trendsetter with innovative ideas, creative programs and new activities.

This camp provides a great Jewish experience including swimming 3x a week, trips 2x a week, sports, science, cooking and baking, many fun activities and more!

Sylvan Learning – Pre K- 12th Grade
When school’s out, Sylvan’s in! If you’re looking for ways to introduce your child to new and fun experiences, our camps and workshops not only engage the mind, but are designed to have a lasting impact outside the classroom. We have great options for school breaks, summer camps and special weekends. We offer a small group environment, your child can bring friends or make new ones.

Wondertree Kids – Ages 3 to 8
Join our fun Wonder-Camp over the summer, where your child will experience the best of Wondertree Kids packed into a fun-filled week! Each week will offer Music, Movement & FUNdamentals, Intro to Keyboard, STEAM, Group Games & YOGA! Facilitated by wonderful camp leaders, your child will leave each day with a new self-awareness and new friends.

Yak Academy – Ages 3-10
Our world language immersion camps will bring out the linguist in your little one! Each day of our five day camps is action-packed and filled with games, arts & crafts, songs and more. Choose from an array of camp themes such as “Little Green Aliens”, which if you ask any child, is the coolest way to learn body parts in a foreign language. Your child will get much more than language though. Working with our native speaking instructors during this intense immersion experience is a great way to learn all about the different cultures this world has to offer.

Cultural Journey – Ages 6-12 years
Namaste India Camp – Campers will learn about India from the following vantage points: Stories and theater; crafts and folk art; Bollywood dance; yoga and meditation; and traditional games.  Amazing Asia Camp – Through creative play, campers will learn about four Asian countries this year: China, Thailand, Japan and India.

Spanish in Action – Manhattan Beach.  Ages 4-9
Our Spanish Immersion Camps of 33 years are carefully thought out to provide children with a memorable and fun language learning experience!   Your children will be totally immersed and learning a ton of Spanish while having a blast, giving special emphasis on acquiring the language through extended game playing, singing songs, dancing, arts and crafts, storytelling, pretend stores, acting, and using their five senses in order to learn to converse in Spanish. We rotate centers and activities every 30 minutes to reinforce the lesson of the day and the theme of each week.

 

Special Needs Camps in the South Bay 

Magic Beans OT Program – for children ages 3-8 with special needs
It is an intensive week of occupational therapy designed to push children towards their next developmental level all while having a blast. Located at Pump it Up in Torrance.

Camp Kesem at Long Beach State – ages of 6-18 (geared towards kids who have loved ones affected by cancer)
We serve children who have lost a parent to cancer, have a parent undergoing cancer treatment, or whose parent is a cancer survivor – an estimated population of over 5 million children in the United States. Camp Kesem runs over 100 weeks of fun, action-packed and 100% free-of-charge camps from coast-to-coast every summer. Serving children ages 6 to 18, our campers experience a warm and loving environment with other children who have similar life experiences. This community provides the foundation for confidence building, improved communication skills, enhanced life outlook and attitude.
